For those of you that are 2K heads like myself Im sure you were anxiously waiting for NBA2K14 to be released with the next gen consoles. After the waiting and beautiful screenshots and videos I was highly disappointed.
The Game is definitely an upgrade graphic wise, but that’s about where the love affair ends. I waited for a couple patches to come out and address some issues before I wrote a review. That day has come, so here it is.
This is the first game I opened for my XBOX ONE. First thing that frustrated me was the amount of time it took to install the game. This took over 2hrs for me. I don’t know if this was due to my connection speed or what, but this seemed like forever to a dude that’s trying to play with his new toy.
After the game loaded I checked out the rosters. Everything seemed cool at first. This was until I noticed that you could not edit players. I believe this is one of the things that made the game so enjoyable. You were able to customize players how you wanted for your own personal use. I was attempting to edit the homie Carlos Boozer since I felt like he wasn’t really getting his just dues. I also hate seeing people wearing buddies (generic shoes) on my team. So I noticed you cant even assign shoes to people. All this was possible on previous versions.
Then I went to My Player / My Career to try and create my player. Even more disappointment came when I saw the way that they changed up this format. In previous versions I was able to do a pretty good job with making my player look like me. On here….not so much..this is not due to a lack of creative vision…this is due to you can only pick from a few faces and then you can pick their hair and shit. Not cool. And the size of the dude didn’t change. The height did but not the size. Im a big dude so If I want to make a husky fella out here…I feel like I should be able to. You could before…I’m just saying.
Another thing that bothered me was when I was playing GM mode I am trying to sign a free agent but couldn’t because I could not negotiate contracts. This option was not available. I believe this was because of the last patch update though.
These issues make me not want to play this game like I normally would. Some of the new game modes and features are cool but not at the expense of the things that were lost in this transition. GM mode gives you a lot more control over the franchise as far as making business decisions. Career mode has added a story line that’s pretty cool. The game looks great and the gameplay is ok. They fine tuned the gameplay on last gen pretty good. This version seems a little harder to play D on. Its a shame that the same gameplay mechanics weren’t used. I’m not a programmer so I don’t know whats all involved but I really hope they can get this stuff together before 2K15.
